Snorkeling can be a great alternative to scuba diving. Sometimes you don't yet have the training or equipment to scuba dive. Sometimes you'd like to ease into the sport slowly.

And sometimes, even skilled scuba divers just want to enjoy swimming and looking around without the extra equipment, preparation and precautions that come with scuba diving. Snorkeling is a great option.

When choosing a snorkel, you should consider the material used. Cheap snorkels are usually inexpensive in part because of shoddy plastics that don't stand up well over time.

Better to spend a little more and get something that works well for several years.

It's difficult enough finding a design that works for you. You don't want to have to repeat the effort every six months.
